Earlier this year, March launched our Overbooked book club to give us an opportunity to read and discuss hot new releases about innovation and technology. Each quarter, we choose a book that will help inspire us as we live and breathe B2B and consumer technology PR. This quarter, we’ll be reading The Moment of Lift: How Empowering Women Changes the World, by Melinda Gates.

We remember the days of cramming in our school summer reading list last minute all too well, and if you are anything like us, then you love the idea of book club but sometimes struggle to find the time to finish the actual book! However, The Moment of Lift is one that I am excited to read as the message resonates strong and clear: If you want to lift a society, invest in women.

The link between women’s empowerment and the health of societies is undoubtedly an important topic today. There are 74.6 million women in the civilian workforce, making up 47 percent of US workers. There are even record numbers of women in Congress. We’ve come a long way but have more work to do to change dated perceptions and ensure that gender equality fully weaves into the social, moral, and economic fiber of future generations.

In this book, Melinda Gates outlines opportunities that exist right now to “turbo-charge” change and ways each one of us can make a lasting difference. We are inspired by so many strong women in our world at March – from our leadership team to clients to journalists we interact with daily, and we’re looking forward to learning more about how we can continue supporting and empowering each other.

Don’t miss out on the opportunity to get Overbooked with March Communications and join the discussion on Twitter and LinkedIn. And, stay tuned for our Hacks & Flacks podcast episode in September, where we’ll discuss our takeaways on the book.
